july garden update
It's a been a cool, wet summer, and a disappointing gardening season. By this time last year, I had early tomatoes, cucumbers, and more zucchini and summer squash than I knew what to do with.
This year is turning out to be a mixed bag...
I harvested just enough strawberries to make a pie in early June, but not a thing since.
My pepper plants have all died and everything else is growing very slowly or not at all. Most of my 20 tomato plants haven't flowered yet and I'm beginning to think that they won't.
Carrots are doing well!
The neighborhood cats raided my catnip patch, but my bee balm, lemon balm, chamomile and mint are thriving. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about my basil :(
My chamomile is starting to flower. Soon, I'll be blending my own organic herbal teas!
I'll leave you with my quiet corner.

My garden hasn't been doing so great this summer, but I have been ignoring it. My tomato plants last year were SO tall and huge. this year they are barely knee-height! I did pick my first two tomatoes today, though.
The squirrels got my strawberries before I did. Jerks! ;)

I love your garden. I see that you planted Bee-balm, my favorite flower, yet I don't know how to make an herbal tea out of it. Could you share how you make yours?

Hi Sara,
I use about a cup of fresh herbs for a pot of tea. I have an 8 cup teapot, and I steep the herbs for about 5 minutes.
By the cup, 6 T of chopped fresh herbs will give you a good sized mug.
Of course, the amount of herbs and steeping time will depend on the strength of the herbs you're using, and how strong you like your tea, but this will hopefully get you started :)
