late snow

There were moments last week where I felt spring.  I thought this March would be a lamb, but the bitter cold wind came back, and the snow returned.

Late last night as I was making a cup of tea, I looked out the window at the falling snow and realized that though I'd been hoping the last snow had been long gone, it was kind of nice to see it one more (I hope) time.

At the same time, there was something desolate about it.

  1. Sage--this photograph is so beautiful, I had to break my rule and register on your blog site so that I could tell you how much I love it. I don't think I've ever been so moved by photography. This puts me in mind of a Werner Herzog installation at the Whitney Bienniale in 2012. The cellist/composer (can't remember his name) in combination with the projections of prints and paintings by Hercules Seghers gave me that same sensation of joy/melancholoy. I went to see that installation many times and I keep coming back to your photograph for the same reason.

  2. Wow, what a compliment! I was actually hesitant to post this photo because it's so different from my usual style and I thought it might be a bit too dark, but your comment cancelled out my reservations. Thank you, Ruth, for breaking your rule, and for making my heart smile.
