My newest love is this original vintage 1960s sapphire and diamond cocktail ring! it’s set with 2.50 carats of pear-shaped sapphires and 1.25 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds! Isn’t it spectacular???
She called to me from the shop window in Hatton Garden, “take me home or regret it forever.”
I found her in London’s Hatton Garden at Farringdon’s Jewellery. Farringdons is a family-owned jeweller specializing in antique, vintage, and pre-owned pieces. They have all sorts of beautiful pieces from Georgian era earrings to crazy 1960s sapphire and diamond cocktail rings like this one! They are the place to go in London for antique and vintage jewellery!
I tried to walk away, but before we got to the end of the block, Robert the Enabler had deduced that she was me “as a ring.” And so we turned right back around, and asked how quickly she could be resized. We had lunch at a little luncheonette, and an hour later, this amazing 1960s sapphire and diamond cocktail ring had taken up residence on my right hand… where she belongs ;-)
I took her home and named her “Little Edie.” Little Edie because she’s eccentric and glamorous, just like the daughter Edith Beale from Grey Gardens.
I like to imagine Little Edie back in the Swinging Sixties on the finger of a glamorous woman who wore mini skirts, big sunglasses, and cat’s eye eyeliner. She threw fabulous cocktail parties in her mod-decorated London townhouse, and Little Edie was her favorite cocktail ring!
I just love imagining Little Edie’s past life…
