We’re back from Greece! The weather was a mixed bag*, but the company, food, and shopping were great!
Hello… feta baked in filo dough drizzled with honey, veggie souvlaki, halloumi wraps, Greek yogurt with honey, and red wine from Crete and the slopes of Mount Olympus! I’m on a diet this week ;-)
Robert bought his first Louis Vuitton bag (luggage!), and I bought three coats… our debit cards are also on a diet this week ;-)
Robert has a friend who lives in Athens (and now I do, too… Hi, Lenia!). She showed us around to the best non-touristy places, and even found me the best falafel in Athens (which comes with roasted aubergine and tastes a lot like mine)!
I’ve come back totally inspired by the food I had and tonight I’m making a dinner with grilled halloumi, salad, and pita that’s a riff on the lunch I had on our last day there. If it comes out well, I’ll post it because everyone should have the opportunity to taste something so wonderful!
A random fact about me is that I bring back two simple things from every place I travel…
1) Something from a tourist shop for my tchotchke shelf. My resin model of the Parthenon is in good company among the Eiffel Tower, a double decker bus, a gondola, a model of the Colosseum, dutch clogs, and all the other deliciously tacky mementos of places I’ve been.
2) A photo of me in an iconic location.
Here I am at the top of the Acropolis on our best weather day:
How much am I rocking that secondhand poncho?
I have some Athens posts in the works and I’m hoping to post one over the next few days. Robert just opened a bottle of Italian red, and I’m off to play in the kitchen. I hope you have a great weekend :)
*Robert says I’m turning English… according to him, English people always start out their postcards with something about the weather. I had no idea that people actually still sent postcards until I met him, but I think it’s sweet and now we send one to his parents from every place we visit, and they send them to us :)

Beautiful! Seems as is the vacation was a wonderful one. I love the idea of of silly little memento from each new place that you visit. It’s really cute and fun.

Thanks :) Those silly little tchotchkes make me smile remembering the places I’ve been, and also because they’re just so adorably retro and horrible at the same time!

You are so glamorous–in this photo you look like a very young Jackie Kennedy.
My DH loves to send post cards, also. He lived in Germany during his teens. I think it’s part of his “old world” charm.

Thanks, Ruth-Ann! You totally made my month with that comment :)
